How Does a Rotary Screw Air Compressor Work?

Are you a business that's thinking of laying hands on rotary screw air compressors? Well, whether you're looking out to establish a factory, undertake a manufacturing process in a large building, or a pressing plant- chances are excellent you'll require an air compressor.

Yes, rotary screw air compressors are a variant of rotary volume compressors that are more reliable, versatile, and offer longevity in functions. The best part is that these find their usage in different types of industries.

What are rotary screw air compressors?
While many people think of air compressors, the thought of reciprocating air compressors, usually known as piston air compressors, comes to their minds. This equipment pushes air into a small space by using pistons, and the receiver tank collects the compressed air.
While the piston air compressors are relatively inexpensive, the rotary screw ones are new and improved air compressors' variants.

The benefits of rotary screws are exemplary, which makes them an ideal choice for van fleet and service truck managers across the globe. The Rotary Screw Air Compressor function by tapping the air into two meshed rotors. The tapped air volume also reduces when it passes through the rotors, which then comes to use in numerous applications like inflating tires, powering air tools, and others.

What are the operation and essential functions of a rotary screw air compressor?
These are the pressurized systems that comprise diverse, interconnected components that work simultaneously for compressing air. Oil and air are vital aspects of the equipment whose ultimate goal is compressed air. The device makes use of atmospheric air but notes that oil is equally essential.

The oil comes into being for lubricating the system and is a not-so-secret weapon for making the screws efficient at pocket-friendly prices. In this sense, two separate systems work in sync wherein one makes the air and the other works with oil circulation.

Now that you know the essential functions, let's get going with the step-by-step guide that seems to explain the oil and air processes flow within a cohesive system simultaneously:

  1. The atmospheric air enters the valve inlet.
  2. The air flows well through the system pressure line towards the regulator valve, which then sets the system's pressure entirely.
  3. The air mixes with oil and compresses through the air-end rotors.
  4. The oil is then mixed with air and is then compressed through the air-end rotors.
  5. The air mixed with oil enters the primary oil separator tank, which then separates the oil from the air.
  6. Air now paves the path to the second separation filters, which catch the remaining air's oil mist.
  7. The oil-free air now exits the system. If an air receiver tank is used, it will collect the air. The oil then moves to the oil cooler, which passes onto the oil filter after cooling down.
  8. The oil filter catches all the oil debris.
  9. All the recycled oil now returns to the air-end, which then passes through the scavenge line.

When you visualize the process, you get a better gist of the overall flow. Note that these steps operate in concurrence. As soon as you turn on the air compressor, the above steps take place continuously and simultaneously.

The Bottom Line
Experts say that the rotating screws power the air compressors. These are often quieter and much more efficient than their piston counterparts as the rotary air compressors are designed for continuous usage.

These have large high air-pressure volumes, which make these ideal long-term investments, especially for newbie manufacturers. Also, the maintenance of these systems is relatively small. All you've to do is establish a plan for long-term equipment reliability and get in touch with a reliable partner!
